OUR HISTORY

We have witnessed on many occasions the power that a simple meal can have on a person's body, mind, and spirit.  Meals not only provide the physical nourishment that our bodies require, but they can also fill us emotionally and spiritually.  Sharing a meal with others encourages conversation, builds relationships, and strengthens community.  In February 2022, after 3 years of ministering to people with food through our catering company, Whisk and Ivy, we formed the The Ivy Table as a 501(c)(3) charity.  It is our hope that The Ivy Table will legitimize the work we have already been doing both locally (in Livingston County) and abroad (in Thailand), and that the new nonprofit status will allow us to expand our outreach even further.

Our name, The Ivy Table was very carefully chosen.  The "ivy" plant symbolizes, resilience (hope), faithfulness (faith), friendship (love).  It is our desire to feed faith, hope, and love to those around us using biblical hospitality.  We see "the table" as a place of provision.  Literally, it is where we eat, but spiritually it is a place of fellowship, communion, and acceptance.

Biblical hospitality, however, goes far beyond just feeding and entertaining those close to us.  It was modeled to us by Jesus and challenges us to treat strangers like family.  Matthew 23:35 says, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in”.  This type of servant-based hospitality involves loving those who may be different than we are.  It involves selflessly, generously, and joyfully giving to those who are hurting financially, physically, mentally, or spiritually.  Biblical hospitality aims to make everyone feel seen, heard, and valued.  Our mission at The Ivy Table is to serve with a Christ-like hospitality that provides love, support, and a sense of belonging to all.

Our Founding Directors consists of Barb Peltz, Jessica Smokovitz, and Sandy Morgan.   All 3 founders and board members have a love for the Lord, hearts for serving others, and years of experience in ministry. Barb is a gifted speaker/ teacher with a background in banking, and has worked closely with clients in need at Love INC.  Jessica has an accounting degree, experience in marketing, and has worked for many years feeding people in the community through Fishes and Loaves.  Sandy has a history in field of human resources, gifts for hospitality and prayer, and has spent many years volunteering at Cornerstone Church.

The Ivy Table partners with like-minded ministries to serve others with biblical hospitality.  We are currently meeting the needs of hungry and hurting populations in both Livingston County, Michigan and in Thailand, and look forward to someday having a physical space in Livingston County where people of all walks of life can gather, share a meal, and experience true Christ-like hospitality.  If you feel that God is calling you to partner with us, with prayer, time, talents, or finances, please contact us.  We would love to hear from you.  Together we can feed hope, faith, and love to the hurting world around us.
